Canabas Dining Table
Canabas Dining Table
An oval top Louis XVI style dining table with custom brass molding mortised into the top edge and an apron which has been recessed back to allow for maximum chair clearance. The tapering square form legs have fluted corners and faces are mounted with custom cast collars and sabots from Victoria & Son’s in-house brass collection. This table can be made to expand with the addition of leaves or to remain in one piece. The overall size of the table determines the number of legs. The model is shown here executed in mahogany with polished brass mounts. Custom materials, finishes and sizes are available.
History: The square tapering fluted legs of this design were inspired by a Louis XVI drop leaf table which we owned and sold by a cabinet maker of German origin working in France in the last third of the 18th century by the name of Joseph Gegenbach, who signed his creations “Canabas”.
